I wish I could remember why I picked this up. I only read The Social Contract portion of the text, and while I gave it as close and careful a first reading as I could, I know that this is insufficient and only provides a superficial understanding of what Rousseau was getting at. But sometimes, this is enough; and in this case it is more than I ever could have hoped for from a text like this. If anything, I came away with a genuine interest in political science, where before I had none.
