I was critiqued in workshop
by a young they/them:
I had used the phrase “do the words” to describe the act of writing and
they had found it unsuitable, suggesting I use something that made more sense,
but the phrasing was perfect to my ear and eye
wondered
how many other perfect things
they had mistaken for errors.
