I haven’t listened to techno with any seriousness in decades. The EDM tracks that pepper my lifelong playlist are remnants of a bygone age: acid-eater, rave-goer, dehydration-enjoyer who died in his prime at twenty-one in 1996.
I came across Planetary Assault Systems while perusing Joel’s work on The Great Beyond website and got curious enough to listen to their latest offering available on Apple Music, Deep Heet Vol. 5 - EP.
The techno I went in for when I was a young, lithe, spastic dancer was of the melodic type. Think ACEN, Capricorn, and others that leaned more toward the “trance” genre. The pounding steady beat of PAS’s work was never my forte, and all these decades later it still sounds inaccessible to my musical palette.
If you’re a fan of the dun-dun-dun-clap, you’ll find much to enjoy with PAS. And it’s likely I’m being my usual curmudgeon; I’m told on great authority that PAS is at the very tip-top echelon of techno music in the present era.
