The Dark Acre Arcade Project

UPDATE 07.01.13

For 2013, & in light of developments concerning Project Zero Eight, I’ve decided to use the Darkade time to participate in the One Game a Month challenge/compo/jam thing.

To that end I’ll be spending the 4-5 Sundays each month this year producing adventure games using the framework developed in Ludum Dare 48 no. 25.

Let’s see how it goes.

The Darkade, or Dark Acre Arcade, is a series of ‘personal game jam’ project where the parameters are:

  • Clone an existing arcade classic or jam something original.
  • Do it from scratch, using as little reference material as possible.
  • Do it between 1100 and 2100 on a Sunday.
  • Publish it to the web, no matter what.

Below are the current ‘winners’, in order of recency. Please enjoy and feel free to give any and all feedback, criticisms, comments. Bear in mind the constraints and that these projects are more for stress relief from the prime project(s) and less about providing a 5-star gaming experience.

*Dark Acre Fisher broke all of the rules because it got way out of hand, fast. Victim of overscope and then past the point of ‘oh this is just garbage I’ll vomit out on the net’ into ‘I should probably make this look somewhat professional’. Fortunately it also served as an excellent warm-up and exercise for the Ludum Dare 48 #22.

TRAINWRECKS

These are super throwaway throwaways, done without any real plan, goal, and a hard 2-hour time limit.

MINIS

These are projects that started out of random inspiration. Mostly demonstrating basic gameplay elements or some mechanical systems.
